Bio
Keith Morrison received the B.Sc. degree in physics with astrophysics
from the University of Leicester, Leicester, U.K., in 1983, and the Ph.D. degree in astronomy and astrophysics from
the University of St. Andrews, St. Andrews, U.K., in 1987.
He has been involved in SAR research for over two decades, and has taught in the subject for 15 years. His first job
was with the British Antarctic Survey, Cambridge, U.K., during 1987–1994. This was followed by a research post
at the University of Sheffield, Sheffield, U.K., during 1994–2000, based within the Sheffield Centre for Earth
Observation Science. During 2000–2002, he worked at DERA/QinetiQ in Malvern. Between 2002 and 2016, he was at
Cranfield University, Cranfield, U.K. Over this interval, he also undertook a sabbatical at the University of Adelaide
in 2005, and then at the Microwaves Institute of the German Aerospace Centre, Wessling, in 2007. Since 2016, he has
been a Professor in earth observation with satellite radars at the University of Reading, Reading, U.K. He has carried
out extensive field campaigns across Europe, including three successive winter campaigns measuring the radar signature
of Alpine snow. More recently, indoor measurements have been used to develop models for the utilization of SAR phase
for soil moisture measurement. He has been involved in the technical and scientific committees of many international
conferences and expert panels. His main research interest include the development and application of ground-based SAR
imaging and signal processing techniques applied to environmental remote sensing for the retrieval of bio- and
geophysical parameters. This has involved the design and build of world-leading indoor laboratory and outdoor
field-based SAR systems. Studies have utilized the frequency range 0.3–50 GHz.
Dr. Morrison received awards for best conference paper and best annual journal publication. He was presented with an
achievement award by NASA in 1998.
