Bio
Khe Chai Sim received the B.A. and M.Eng. degrees in electrical and
information sciences in 2001, and the M.Phil. degree in computer speech, text, and internet technology in 2002, all
from the University of Cambridge, Cambridge, U.K. He joined the Machine Intelligence Laboratory, Cambridge University
Engineering Department as a Research Student and completed his doctoral dissertation: “Structured precision
matrix modelling for speech recognition” in 2006 under the supervision of Professor M. Gales. From 2008 to 2016,
he was an Assistant Professor at the National University of Singapore. He has been a Senior Research Scientist in
Google, Mountain View, CA, USA, since 2016. He has worked on the DARPA-funded EARS project from 2002 to 2005 and the
GALE project from 2005 to 2006. He has also participated in various NIST evaluations: Rich Transcription (2004),
Machine Translation (2006), Language Recognition (2007), and Speaker Recognition (2008). He received the Google
Faculty Research Award 2014.
