Kim Viljanen is an expert in digital content management and linked (meta)data, with experience also in project management, media & communication, sales & marketing, concept design and topped with an entrepreneurial mindset. Kim is currently working at the Finnish Broadcasting Company Yle as a concept designer, developing (meta)data oriented approaches to improve the findability, visibility and engagement of Yle's television, radio and web content. Before joining Yle, Kim researched Linked Data and Semantic Web technologies in the Semantic Computing Research Group Seco at the Aalto University, Helsinki University of Technology and University of Helsinki. Kim has published over 50 scientific articles on ontology services, semantic recommender systems, semantic portals, etc, and has given lots of talks both internationally and in Finland. He has co-created award winning applications such as the semantic portals MuseumFinland and HealthFinland and co-developed the backbone of the Finnish semantic web infrastructure FinnONTO: the ontology library ONKI. Kim has semiprofessionally produced live events such as the digital culture festival Alternative Party, the demoscene art screening roadshow Demowall, the DIY festival WÄRK:fest, and We Love Open Data hits Berlin. He has also created television broadcasts and programs, magazine articles, websites, etc. In addition, Kim has been a member of the board in many digitally oriented associations and companies, e.g., the chairman of the Alternative Party ry, the chairman of the Travelling Salesman ry, the vice-chairman of the Finnish Microcomputer Museum association, a co-founder of the Finnish Media Art Network, and a member of board at Holvi - a startup company that will make money smarter, and member of board of the Finnish Artificial Intelligence Society FAIS.
