Currently I am a research fellow in the Intelligent Robotics Lab in the School of Computer Science at the University of Birmingham. I work on qualitative spatial-temporal representations and activity models together with Nick Hawes and Jeremy Wyatt in the STRANDS project (Spatio-Temporal Representations and Activities for Cognitive Control in Long-Term Scenarios), a 4-year EU FP7 Integrating Project. I received my doctorate (Dr. rer. nat.) from the Technische Universität München (TUM) where I was a member in the Intelligent Autonomous Systems (IAS) group until March 2013. Under the supervision of Prof. Michael Beetz, I worked on knowledge representation and reasoning for robots. In particular, I researched about commonsense and naive physics reasoning for everyday robot manipulation. During summer 2011, I was a visiting researcher in the JSK lab at The University of Tokyo where I mainly worked with Kei Okada on object search tasks within large-scale indoor environments (IEEE Spectrum Automaton blog). Before I joined the IAS group, I studied Computer Science and Cognitive Science at the University of Osnabrück, and partly at The University of Edinburgh and Technische Universität München. I received the MSc degree (with distinction) in Computer Science in 2008 and the BSc degree in Cognitive Science in 2006. As a graduate student, I worked as an assistant on autonomous robot navigation in the Knowledge-Based Systems group led by Prof. Joachim Hertzberg.
