Current research interests:
- High Pressure Technology applied in preservation of food products (e.g. ready-to-eat products, fish/meat products, dairy products, fruits, vegetables, juices), as a cold pasteurization, to extend the food shelf-life, and improve the food quality and safety;
- Hyperbaric Storage of foods as a new preservation method;
- Subzero storage under pressure, without freezing, of food products;
- Chemical (e.g. proximate composition, lipid oxidation) and physical (texture and colour) analyses;
- Food microbiological analyses (bacterial, fungal and yeast culturing). Experience in microbiological laboratory practice and aseptic techniques (Laminar Flow Cabinet);
- Bioactive analyses (e.g. antioxidant capacity, polyphenol compounds);
- Experienced user in UV-Vis spectrophotometer and Fluorometer equipments. Microscopy (Optical) techniques;
- Determination of enzyme activity in food products;
- Experience in writing technical reports, scientific papers, grants/projects proposals.
Technical skills and other activities:
- Feb 2011 - Feb 2012
Collaborative research as foreign researcher project entitled “Effect of High Pressure Processing and Subsequent Frozen Storage on Quality Degrading Enzymes of Pelagic Fish Species” (Spain project no. 10TAL402001PR, 2010–2012) in analysis of enzyme activity (acid phosphatase, cathepsin B and D, and lipase) involving Spanish institutions (University of Santiago de Compostela and CSIC: Instituto de Investigaciones Marinas de Vigo).
- Knowledge at the level of operating and maintaining of the High Pressure equipment: High pressure system U33 (Unipress 104 Equipment, Poland) and Hiperbaric 55 (Spain);
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook), Endnote, STATISTICA and CorelDRAW. Basic knowledge of MATLAB and SPSS;
- Collaboration/scientific support in academic events (Academia de Verão, Olimpíadas de Química +, Olimpíadas de Química Junior, organized by University of Aveiro). Member of the Núcleo de Estudantes de Química da Associação Académica da Universidade de Aveiro (NEQ-AAUAv).
