Aquaporins
Aquaporins facilitate water transport across biomembranes. The discovery (1992 in erythrocyte and 1993 in plants) of aquaporins has facilitated research on intracellular and whole-plant water transport at the molecular level. I and collaborators identified and analyzed many aquaporin genes in barley. We also showed some aquaporins permeate carbon-dioxide in addition to water.
