个人简介
Dr. Yan’s current research interests include design and processing of optical fibers. He investigated heat and mass transfers in the modified chemical vapor deposition (MCVD) preform fabrication process and invented new high-rate deposition process for dispersion-managed fibers. He developed radiation-hardened optical fibers and heavily fluorine-doped fibers for dispersion-compensation and phosphorus-core fibers for Raman amplifiers. Dr. Yan also developed low-attenuation, highly nonlinear fibers for supercontinuum generation. He processed fibers for optical filter, beam-expansion, variable optical attenuator and GRIN lens applications. Recently, he developed Raman filter fiber lasers, bend-insensitive and broadband multimode fibers, ultra-low loss and large effective area fibers as well as multicore sensor and multicore transmission fibers.
Dr. Yan received 50 patents, authored or co-authored >225 papers and edited 6 books. His publication has >5500 citations and citation h-index of 40.
Dr. Yan is a fellow of the American Ceramic Society that he served as a Vice-President (1997-1998), the Electronics Division Chair and Trustee.
Dr. Yan received 2015 Journal of Lightwave Technology Best Paper Award. He received the 1980 Ross Coffin Purdy Award for outstanding contribution to ceramic literature. He received the 1992 Fulrath Pacific Award by the American Ceramic Society for ceramic and optical fiber processing. He received OFS Awards for Outstanding Contributions to LaserWave® FLEX and LaserWave® FLEX WideBand Fiber Projects.
