个人简介
Mario Parise was born in Naples (Italy) on March 24, 1965.
His teaching activity is mainly dedicated to Geological Sciences graduate and undergraduate degrees, where he teaches Engineering Geology, Slope Stability and Rock Mechanics, Hydrogeology of Coastal Systems, and Hazards in Karst Environments.
He has been the supervisor of several graduate and PhD theses. He is member of the panel of the Earth Science PhD degree at Bari University. He also gives lectures and seminars for masters, workshops and schools in Italy and abroad.
Mario Parise is member of the Karst Commission of the International Association of Hydrogeologists (IAH), member of the Executive Committee of the Italian Section of the International Association of Engineering Geology (IAEG), president of the Commission on Artificial Cavities of the International Union of Speleology (UIS). At the University Aldo Moro in Bari, he is member of the Technical-Scientific Committee for the agreement with the Alta Murgia National Park, and of the Technical-Scientific Committee for the agreement with the Southern Apennine District Authority.
Mario Parise has been coordinator and/or Research Unit responsible of several projects funded by the National Department of Civil Protection, and by private and public entities.
The research activity of Mario Parise is focused on the engineering geological and geomorphological analysis of slope movements, with specific regard to multi-temporal analysis, aimed at understanding the slope evolution, even in relationship with anthropogenic activities, and/or as a consequence of specific triggering events (rainfall, earthquakes, etc.). For several sites, he has outlined a framework of the influence of weathering in the predisposition of slope movements. He has also contributed to the analysis of rapid landslides (debris avalanches, rock avalanches) in different geological settings in Italy and abroad, and to studying the occurrence of debris flows and erosional processes in areas recently affected by wildfires. He has developed an expertise in the recognition and investigation of slope failures, production of thematic maps, also collaborating in the interpretation of monitoring data and in slope stability analyses.
Another field of research of Mario Parise is karst, where his activities are focused on the evaluation of natural and anthropogenic hazards, with particular regard to sinkholes, underground instability and failures, flash floods in karst settings, and karst hydrogeology. This research is carried out also thanks to the caving activity which he performs since 1998.
He is the author of over two hundred papers published on international journals (most of them on ISI high impact factor journals) and proceedings of international conferences. He is convener or co-convener in many international congresses and conferences, has acted as Guest Editor in more than 10 special issues for ISI international journals, and has published three books with the Geological Society of London. He is member of the Editorial Board of the following journals:
Carbonates and Evaporites
Geosciences
Journal of Cave and Karst Studies
Journal of Environmental Science and Allied Research
Journal of Mountain Sciences
Natural Hazards and Earth System Sciences
Opera Ipogea
