Mobile phone cameras represent the largest and fastest growing market in imaging technology nowadays. Some people even claim that mobile imaging is a disruptive innovation for photography. However, in order to meet the perceived demands and consumer expectations in this rapidly growing market, obvious constraints like: low power consumption, miniaturization, durability and low cost, had to be considered in the design of camera phones.
My most recent work (since 2004) is in the area of image and video applications for camera phones. Due to their size and cost limitations, cameras embedded in mobile devices are often providing lower quality pictures than dedicated cameras. In my work I am addressing this problem by designing and developing algorithms for image and video quality enhancement that are able to overcome the limitations of miniature cameras. My main contributions include: multi-frame image fusion algorithms for image quality enhancement in low light and high dynamic range conditions, image de-blurring algorithms, motion filtering for video stabilization, mobile panoramic imaging algorithms.
Specialties: More than fifteen years of combined industry and academic experience as a research scientist in the areas of computational photography, image and video processing, biometrics, computer vision and computer aided design.
Author/co-author of several scientific publications and innovations transitioned into practical solutions. Diverse educational background in computer science, signal processing, and electronics.
