Studies using soil chronosequences have enhanced our understanding of soil development and long-term controls of physical factors on carbon storage in soils; however, future work must address the influence of climate change on these processes. We are developing a network of (3-5) marine terrace chronosequences along the CA coast which will span a climate gradient from cool wet to hot and dry. These sites will aid us in exploring the role of climate in shaping processes in the critical zone.
