He is known internationally for his innovative research in assisted reproduction and is recognized as one of the pioneers responsible for the development of egg and embryo donation. He established one of the most competitively sought after training programs for fellows in reproductive endocrinology and is responsible for advancing clinical, basic, and stem cell research while training the future leaders in the specialty. He has a particular interest in medical bioethics and serves on the Ethics Committee of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, the Ethics Committee of the NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center, and the editorial board of the American Journal of Bioethics. Included are patients with cancer wishing to preserve their fertility prior to oncology treatments; single women and same sex couples; patients experiencing recurrent pregnancy loss; menopausal women young and old wishing to have a biologic child; and HIV infected individuals utilizing special techniques to ensure their partners and children remain disease free Dr. Sauer’s special interests include all aspects of assisted reproduction and egg donation.
