Bio
Dr. Shooman is an Emeritus Professor of Computer Science at the Polytechnic Institute of NYU, Brooklyn, NY, and is President of Martin L. Shooman and Associates, Consulting. He has taught for 56 years at Polytechnic as a full time and emeritus faculty member and also at Hunter College and MIT (sabbatical). Prof. Shooman received his BSEE and MSEE degrees from MIT and his PhD in EE from the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn.
He has many years of experience in research, teaching, writing and consulting in the fields of reliability, software engineering, software reliability, fault-tolerant computing, and control systems. Dr. Shooman has received five best paper awards from the IEEE Computer and Reliability Societies and is a Fellow of the IEEE.
He is author of four Books: “Probabilistic Reliability”, “Probabilistic Reliability 2nd Edition”, “Software Engineering”, and “Reliability of Computer Systems and Networks”. Dr. Shooman is presently completing a fifth book entitled, “Software Engineering Fundamentals and Practice: Design, Metrics, Test, Reliability, and Management.”
Prof. Shooman has authored over 150 technical papers, reports, and chapters in 5 books. His books have been translated into Chinese, Japanese, and Russian. His industrial experience has been with GE, Grumman, and RCA. Dr. Shooman has given numerous short courses in the United States, England, Canada, France, Italy, and Israel. He has consulted for many government, military, and commercial organizations in the U. S. and abroad.
