Dr. Trevisan is Dean of the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education at the City College of New York. He was previously Vice Chancellor and CEO of the University of Nevada Health Sciences System. He also holds an appointment as a Research Professor of Epidemiology and Environmental Health at the University at Buffalo and Adjunct Professor in Preventive Medicine at Northwestern University in Chicago.
Between 1974 and 1982 he was a postdoctoral fellow in Preventive Cardiology and Cardiovascular Epidemiology at Northwestern University under the guidance of Dr. Jeremiah Stamler. In 1995 he was elected member of the American Epidemiological Society. In 1999 he received the University at Buffalo Stockton Kimball Award for Research, in 2002 the SUNY Chancellor's Research Recognition Award and in 2008 he was named a SUNY Distinquished Professor.
Dr. Trevisan started in the department of Epidemiology and Environmental Health (formerly SPM) in 1985 and was the chair of SPM from 1993 until 2003. In 2001 he became interim dean of the School of Health Related Professions (HRP). He established the School of Public Health and Health Professions (SPHHP) by combining the department of Epidemiology and Environmental Health with HRP. He was named dean of SPHHP in December 2004 and left in September 2007 to serve as Vice Chancellor and CEO University of Nevada Health Sciences System.
Dr. Trevisan's research interests focus on the role of lifestyle and metabolic factors in the etiology and prevention of cardiovascular disease, with a special focus on the role of diet and alcohol use. More recently, he has focused on the relationship between oral and systemic health, such as ties between periodontal disease and cardiovascular disease and the role of infection and inflammation.
