个人简介
Professor Dr. Mayeen Uddin Khandaker has made a brilliant result (1st class 1st position) in both the BSc (Physics) and MSc (Physics) examinations from the University of Chittagong, Bangladesh. Later, he obtained a Ph.D. in Radiation and Nuclear Physics from Korea, and subsequently, joined as a postdoctoral researcher at the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute, followed by as a nuclear scientist at the International Atomic Energy Agency, Austria. He also worked as a Lecturer in Physics at the International Islamic University Chittagong, Bangladesh, as an Assistant Professor of Physics at the American International University-Bangladesh, an Associate Professor of Physics at the University of Malaya, Malaysia, and currently as a Professor of Physics at Sunway University, Malaysia. At present, he has more than 20 years of teaching experience at the university level, whereas his prime responsibility is to teach various physics courses to BSc and MSc students.
Prof. Khandaker is an established researcher in radiation and nuclear physics. Throughout his research career, he worked in a number of research institutions such as the International Atomic Energy Agency (Austria), Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (S. Korea), The Institute of Physical & Chemical Research (RIKEN, Japan), National Institute of Radiological Sciences (Japan), France Atomic Energy (CEA-Saclay, France) including as a research student in Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC). He already published 537 high-quality research papers including 37 review papers, 28 conference papers, 3 book chapters, and 4 editorials/letters. The overall standard of the published papers is 94% (Tier-1/2), and 6% (Tier-3/4) category under WoS/Scopus database. Within the period of his research career, his published works have been cited over 9035 times with an h-index of 46 (Google Scholar). This number is within the top 1% in the ‘Nuclear Science and Technology’ category, which is his core research field.
Prof. Mayeen's overall research works are focused on: (i) optimizing production parameters for medical radionuclides for automated production by state-of-the-art technology such as the cyclotron; (ii) detecting and removing radioactive and toxic metals in foodstuffs and environmental matrices for expanding access to safe water and foodstuffs to ensure the safety of human health, and; (iii) developing novel radiation dosimeters to provide accurate monitoring of radiation in medical, industrial, and environmental applications. Many of his published papers are in line with the SDGs and unique in creating respective societal impacts.
At present, Prof. Khandaker is supervising 4 PhD and 2 MSc students (14 PhD and 21 MSc students have already been awarded under his supervision) and handling several research projects including one Coordinated Research Project on theranostic radionuclide production assigned by IAEA. Currently, he is doing joint research together with a number of scientists and professors from Japan, the IAEA, Kuwait, the United Kingdom, India, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia and Bangladesh.
Prof. Khandaker is serving as an associate editor for the Journal of Radiation Physics and Chemistry (Elsevier). In addition to serving as an external and internal examiner of more than 10 Ph.D. and 15 MSc theses from home and abroad, he also evaluated many international research projects from United Arab Emirates University, Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences, National Center of Science and Technology Evaluation, Kazakhstan. Due to his excellent service to the scientific community, he has been recognized and acknowledged for instance by Elsevier as one of its most valuable reviewers for the years 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2021. He has also been awarded 'Excellence in Research in 2022 (Commendation)' by Sunway University. Prof. Khandaker has been listed as one of the top 2% of scientists by Stanford University and Elsevier for the years 2021 and 2022. Besides teaching and research, Prof. Khandaker is involved in administrative and social activities, as well as serving as a member of the senate of Sunway University, Malaysia.
