Dr. Brown received his PhD in exercise physiology from the University of Maryland. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship in the Department of Internal Medicine and the Institute of Gerontology at the University of Michigan where he studied age-associated hypertension. Using complementary human and cell models, his research focuses on hypertension, vascular health and exercise in African Americans. Dr. Brown is a fellow in three professional organizations.
Dr. Brown is a fellow of the American Heart Association Council for High Blood Pressure Research, the American College of Sports Medicine and the National Academy of Kinesiology. He serves on, or heads, various national-level committees and recently completed a term on the Board of Trustees for the American College of Sports Medicine. He also serves as chair of the Diversity Action Committee of the American College of Sports Medicine. In addition to these affiliations, Dr. Brown is a member of the American Physiological Society and the American College of Sports Medicine Minority Health Research Interest Group. Dr. Brown’s research program focuses on hypertension, vascular health and exercise in African Americans. His research uses complementary human and cell models to address his research questions. Dr. Brown has received external funding at each stage of his career. His research has been funded primarily by the NIH and AHA. He has over 80 publications in peer-reviewed journals.
