Dr. Ritsner served as Associate Editor, An International Journal of Quality of Life Aspects of Treatment, Care and Rehabilitation (The Netherlands); Board Member, American Journal of Neuroprotection and Neuroregeneration (USA); CNS & Neurological Disorders-Drug Targets (Italy); member of the Scientific Committee, International Society for the Study of Neuroprotection and Neuroplasticity (Romania). Dr. Ritsner is internationally renowned for his research in schizophrenia spectrum disorders (molecular genetics, neurosteroids, novel neuroprotective treatments), and has long advocated the view that quality of life impairments is a core syndrome of schizophrenia and related disorders. He develops the Distress/Protection Vulnerability Model of quality of life deficit syndrome in schizophrenia spectrum disorders. Particular areas of interest include genetic epidemiology, molecular genetics and biomarkers, cognitive impairments, novel antipsychotic drugs and agents with neuroprotective properties (DHEA, Pregnenolone, L-Theanine, and Bexarotene). He also directs the Stanley Foundation (USA)-funded a multi-site study, which was aimed to test novel neuroprotective agents. Dr. Ritsner is the author of over 220 peer-reviewed scientific articles and reviews, more than 20 book chapters as well as 14 edited volumes and two monographs in neuropsychiatry. His last monograph: Ritsner M.S. The Impact of Severe Mental Illness on Quality of Life: Challenges for Research and Practices. Nova Science Publisher’s, New York, 2017. Dr. Ritsner has given more than 200 presentations including as invited speaker at scientific conferences and medical education events.
