Bio
Michael Zeng manages the AI Cognitive Services Research (CSR) Group at Microsoft to conduct cutting edge research to contribute to the advancement of state of the art in the following areas: Speech Recognition, Natural Language Processing, Computer Vision, Multimodal Human Computer Interaction, and Intelligent Agents.
He joined Microsoft in 1997, and worked on IE, SQL server, Windows, Bing, Cortana, and Cloud & AI. He was one of the early XML developers, and has made key contributions to the development of XML technologies, including XML, XSD, XPath, XSLT, and XQuery. He developed the first version of Windows HPC server job scheduler when he was with the Windows HPC team from 2005 to 2006. He joined Microsoft STC Asia in Beijing China in 2006 as one of the founding members, and helped grow it from a small team to a R&D power house of over 1600 scientisfts and engineers in 2018. He held different key leadership positions, was responsible for managing and directing teams in Speech, Natural Language Processing, Bing, Cortana, and Cloud & AI infrastructure. and made great contributions to move forward the state-of-the-art in technologies, with great business impact. He returned back to US to lead the Speech and Dialogue Research Group in December 2018.
In addition to his many technical and business accomplishments, he has recruited and cultivated top talents and built very strong and productive teams. His passion for innovation and constant pursuit of excellence always inspire his teams to achieve higher goals, and break new grounds in Artificial Intelligence, search, and cloud computing.
