I am a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) at Bournemouth University, where I am a member of the Machine Intelligence Group and the Human Computer Interaction Group. This term I am teaching a Masters course on Big Data and Cloud Computing (optional unit of a MSc in Applied Data Analytics.) I have previously worked on Natural Language Generation projects in a variety of domains, including Scrutable Autonomous Systems (SAsSy), nature conservation (MinkApp), cultural heritage (CURIOS), and Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) ("How was school today...?"). Before that, I worked on human-centered issues in recommender systems at Telefonica R&D. Students: I am on the outlook for bright PhD and Masters students to join me in Bournemouth to work on topics relating to the transparency of intelligent systems, and usability/interface issues (e.g. diversity, novelty) in recommender systems. Other academic activities: I have been reviewing for UMAP and RecSys since 2011, and have served on the PC for other venues including IUI, CHI, INTERACT, and WWW. I am an Associate Editor for a TiiS Special issue on Human Interaction With Artificial Advice Givers. I served as Demo and Poster co-chair for UMAP'15 and IUI'16. I also served as Workshop and Tutorial co-chair for IUI'15, and publicity co-chair for both IUI'2014 and UMAP'2014. Track record: I have published over 30 peer reviewed papers. H-index: 13, i10-index: 13, most cited article: >180 citations (>780 total), according to Google scholar on the 24/02/16.
