The results of the work of the outstanding Russian scholar, academician Nikolai p. Laverov was the basis of the key directions of the Russian nuclear industry and contributed to the strengthening of the defense capability of Russia, said in a condolence message of the Director General of the Rosatom state Corporation Alexey Likhachev in connection with the death of the famous Explorer. Chairman of the scientific-technical Council of “Rosatom”, the academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Nikolay Laverov, died 27 November on 87-m to year of life.“The world of Russian science suffered a grievous loss. It is difficult to overestimate the contribution of Nicholas to the development of Geology, Geochemistry, uranium exploration and development of mineral resources. The work and research of the academician p. Laverov laid the scientific Foundation for successful and safe development of key areas of the nuclear industry, has made an enormous contribution to strengthening the defense capacity of our country,” — said Likhachev, whose words are in the “Rosatom”. “The memory of academician Laverov, a distinguished representative of the Russian school of Geology and Geochemistry, talented organizer and the teacher will live on in his scientific legacy, his students and associates. We will always remember him,” said the head of “Rosatom”. Laverov was a recognized leader of the Russian scientists in the field of Geology of uranium. He made an enormous contribution to the study of the fuel resources for nuclear power. Under the leadership of p. Laverov and with his direct participation created a new highly effective technologies of development of deposits of uranium underground leaching methods without human contact with the uranium ore, providing global leadership of the Union nuclear industry. He is the Creator and organizer of the works on the new scientific field of radioecology is a scientific basis for the protection of the environment from radiation contamination. Under his leadership identified a set of geological and geodynamic criteria and factors, allowing to provide a safe underground isolation of radioactive waste. In 1988-89 years Laverov headed a research group of the government Commission on elimination of consequences of Spitak earthquake. His work is justified not only safe operation of the Armenian NPP, but also the possibility of building new nuclear power units in Armenia. Nikolay Laverov in different years was awarded a number of honours including the highest award of the RAS — a Large gold medal named after Lomonosov.
