个人简介
Formally trained as a trauma nurse, I began my nursing career in the emergency department in Israel. There, I treated a subset of patients who, despite their advanced age, were able to regain functioning after experiencing illness or trauma, and a different subset of patients who appeared well, yet tolerated stress poorly and never recovered.
I have profoundly enjoyed my professional journey as a nurse leader, educator, and innovator. Today, my agenda includes three interrelated foci: developing technology-enhanced behavioral interventions, defining and promoting healthy aging for those at risk for and with frailty, and improving ambulatory care management.
I am interested in leveraging my expertise in frailty, healthy aging, and behavioral interventions in the emerging fields of mHealth and other health-technology platforms. Currently, I am furthering research and development of a mobile health intervention to support healthful dietary choices in older persons with frailty. This work will soon culminate in a randomized control trial to test a mobile app designed to improve adherence to the Mediterranean Diet. I predict this will lead to few other projects that will test strategies for integrating the digital solutions for behavior change into the ambulatory care environment.
As a way of extending the portfolio of digital solutions for the older population, I am also co-leading a research group that includes faculty and students from nursing and informatics entitled “Virtual Online Communities for Aging Life Experience – VOCALE”. The group aims to evaluate social media platforms in facilitating communication with and between older adults about their bodily experience concerning frailty symptoms.
In addition to my appointment as Assistant Professor, I served as an Associate Director for Research at the de Tornyay Center for Healthy Aging from 2015-2018. I have served on several PhD workgroups and provide mentorship to students interested in areas related to gerontology, frailty, and dementia. I am committed to training the next generation of nurse scientists and practitioners and to integrating effective and cutting-edge technological tools that facilitate active learning, both in the classroom and as a mentor to students at all levels.
