Crime
Crime is ubiquitous in human societies. My research focuses on modeling and measuring the fundamental dynamics of crime patterns using cutting-edge mathematical methods. My goal is to translate these models into practical tools for use by police and communities in combating crime.
My work on crime is in collaboration with Andrea Bertozzi (UCLA), Sean Malinowski (LAPD), George Mohler (Santa Clara), Martin Short (Georgia Tech), and George Tita (UC Irvine).
Cultural Evolution
Humans have successfully inhabited virtually every environment on the planet. My research is focused on modeling and measuring the evolution of this capacity especially cultural and behavioral adaptations in complex and extreme environments. I am particularly interested in the role of neutral processes in human cultural evolution.
My work on culural evolution is in collaboraiton with David Madsen (U Texas), John Olsen (UofA), Charles Perreault (ASU), David Rhode (DRI), and Todd Surovell (U Wyoming).
