Paulo Teixeira finished his graduation in Polymer Engineering in December 2005 and has been working as a researcher in different projects of science, technology and innovation. Thus, considering the last (older activities can be found in the CV), in September 2014 he was hired as scientific researcher in the FCT funded project entitled "Exploring new bioplastics, fillers, formulations and film processing routes to produce high added value compostable food packaging". This activity contributed to the unraveling of chemistry/mechanical properties relationships in biomaterials, and the interplay between film properties, film formulation and processing conditions. Thus, one scientific publication was obtained and large experience in biomaterials (including processing and characterization methods) was gained. From October 2015 to March 2016, he was hired as scientific researcher of the I3N/MINHO. The main activities included the design and development of extrusion set-ups, characterization of complex fluids, support studies in the field of rheology and monitoring of Master and PhD students. In February 2016 he completed the PhD in Science and Engineering of Polymers and Composites at the UMinho. The thesis received the Iberian award for the most distinguished PhD Thesis in Rheology at IBEREO 2017 ("http://ibereo2017.adeituv.es/") and delivered 5 papers in ISI journals. Thus, the development of small-scale instrumented dies equipped with in-line rheo-optical tools contributed to the advancement of knowledge in complex materials under complex flows, providing information at different length scales and of establishing correlations between rheological response, process-induced material structure and product properties. Immediately after finishing the PhD, he was hired as post-doctoral researcher at I3N/MINHO to design and develop new optimized (with smaller footprint) rheo-optical dies for the in-line monitoring of extrusion processes and characterization of polymer nanocomposites and bio nanocomposites, and to support Master and PhD students. In October 2018 he was hired as Research Assistant for the European project "YPACK- High Performance Polyhydroxyalkanoates Based Packaging to Minimise Food Waste" (www.YPACK.eu). In this project the main objective was the pre-industrial scale up and validation of two innovative biodegradable food packaging solutions (thermoformed tray and flow pack bag) based on PHA, with active properties and passive barrier. The project was very enriching because it allowed to gain a significant knowledge on bio-based and biodegradable materials, formulation and modification. The main activities were compounding of the tray structural layer (formulation, optimization, characterization of batches) and production of commercial PHA based extruded thin films. This work contributed for a publication where film blowing of a co-extruded Poly (hydroxybutyrate) (PHB) layer with a poly butylene adipateco-terephtalate (PBAT) layer to enhance bubble stability, mechanical and barrier properties where proposed. During this period, he also monitored two PhD students (from UEPG e UFRJ, both from brasil) and co-supervised 2 master students from UMinho, details in CV. In November 2020 he was hired by CeNTI - Centre for Nanotechnology and smart materials as a researcher in the functional fibre group where I have been working with multidisciplinary teams in several projects of innovation, science and technology. During his scientific path he produced 17 papers in international scientific indexing journals (with a total of 100 citations), and 3 peer-reviewed conference proceedings. Six publications were co-authored with international researchers thus illustrating the internationalization career. He also delivered several oral and poster communications in international conferences and produced 3 original prototypes for the in-process monitoring of the extrusion of polymer systems.
