Peter Mascher

Peter Mascher received the Ph.D. degree in engineering physics from the Technical University Graz, Styria, Austria, in 1984. He was a Postdoctoral Fellow and a Research Associate at the University of Winnipeg. In 1989, he joined McMaster University, Hamilton, ON, Canada, where he became a Professional Engineer and a Professor in the Department of Engineering Physics, and he was the Chair of the department from 1995 to 2001. Currently, he is the Associate Dean (Research and External Relations) of the Faculty of Engineering. He leads active research groups involved in the fabrication and characterization of thin films for optoelectronic applications and defects in semiconductors by positron annihilation spectroscopy. He is the author or coauthor of more than 140 publications in refereed journals and conference proceedings and has presented many invited lectures at international conferences and workshops. He is a member of McMaster's Brockhouse Institute for Materials Research and the Centre for Emerging Device Technologies. In 2001, he was the William Sinclair Chair in Optoelectronics. Since 2003, he has been the Program Director of the Ontario Photonics Consortium, McMaster University-led multi-university initiative co-funded by the Ontario Research and Development Challenge Fund and industrial partners. Dr. Mascher is also a member of various international physics and materials research societies.
