Bio
I obtained my PhD at Loughborough University in Social Sciences, for which I conducted conversation analytic research on sexual identity, gaze and touch in everyday interactions. My background is in Linguistics, and I completed a MA in Sociolinguistics at the University of Essex, and a BA in German (Linguistics and Language Studies) at the University of Southampton.
I am a Lecturer in Medical Education in the Research Department of Medical Education (RDME) at UCL Medical School, where I am involved on projects on communication in simulated medical consultations, evaluations of medical education programmes, and differential attainment in postgraduate medical assessments. Prior to this I was a Research Fellow at Leeds University Business School, where I worked on a project looking at the language and body language of entrepreneurs seeking support from investors, using conversation analysis and gesture analysis.
I lead the Researchers' Development Group within RDME, and am a member of the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee at UCL Medical School.
