Teixeira Ricardo F M

Ricardo Teixeira, is an agri-food LCA expert with vast international experience. He graduated in Environmental Engineering in 2005 from Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) – University of Lisbon (UL), after winning two Diplomas of Merit for the highest yearly average grade in the degree. In 2010 he completed his PhD in the same scientific area at IST. He also obtained an MSc in Economics in 2008 at UL. His theses contributed significantly to determine the sustainability performance of SBP. After his PhD he moved to the private sector in France (2011-2013) as Technology for Carbonostics, a sustainability IT and LCA consulting company specialized in the food sector, where he worked with some of the biggest players in food manufacturing worldwide. He moved to Belgium (2013-2015) where he obtained a Marie Skłodowska-Curie (MSC) Fellowship and worked on biodiversity indicators in LCA at the University of Antwerp. He was consultant at Terraprima (2015), an IST-spinoff company created to manage projects resulting from IST research activities, and is currently (2015-present) an FCT Post-Doc researcher at IST working on the development and application of new LCI and LCIA models in agricultural LCA. As of January 1, 2018, he authored 46 publications, 15 in international journals (10 as first author and 4 as single-author) with an accumulated impact factor (IF) of 53.8, plus conference proceedings (27), book chapters (3), etc. These publications involve co-authorship by 19 researchers of 9 different nationalities. According to Google Scholar the researcher has a total of 319 citations (275 in the last 5 years) and an h-index of 10. From 2006-2017, he made 34 oral presentations (10 by invitation), including 2 keynote presentations – at the 8th Conference on Sustainable Development of Energy, Water and Environment Systems in Croatia (2013) and at the workshop “Nature-Based Solutions: bridging the gap between research and innovation on biodiversity and ecosystem services” in Belgium (2015). He also participated in 6 major academic research projects and 10 private and public sector projects. He partakes in several LCA-related Life Cycle Initiative taskforces (led by the United Nations Environmental Program and the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry, and is a member of the European Innovation Partnership’s (EIP) focus group 25 entitled “Grazing for Carbon”. He was on the Editorial Board (2013-2016) of the journal Integrated Environmental Assessment and Management (IF 2.32), was member of the scientific advisory board for 8 international conferences (2014-2018), co-organized 2 scientific workshops on biodiversity and LCA, is currently the co-guest editor of a special issue entitled “Livestock production and Industrial Ecology” in the journal Sustainability (IF: 1.850) and peer-reviewed 87 papers for 25 international journals. He currently teaches Industrial Ecology classes at IST and has mentored numerous students (main or co-advisor of 9 MSc theses and 1 PhD thesis).
