For more than 15 years I have been building insight and actionable perspectives on how we can use complex technology to meet the challenges of our time. My expertise lays in system safety: what is needed to deploy algorithms and artificial intelligence in a safe and responsible way? What does that require from developers, but also from policy makers and administrators? And how do we protect citizens and empower professionals in the process?

The challenge that looms ever more clearly is: What kind of world do we want to live in? How do we shape our education, our healthcare, our energy system at a time when technology is increasingly penetrating all the capillaries of society?

These questions will be battled out in the coming years, calling for cooperation across disciplines. As a systems scientist, with one leg in the technology and one in the application and managerial context, my role is to connect but also to provide concepts and scientific lessons that are sufficiently able to interpret the complexity of these technology issues and translate them into everyday choices and solutions.

Besides my work as a scientist, I am administratively and politically active, and help people as a coach in their integral development as human beings.
