Shafiqul Islam obtained his PhD degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Ottawa-Carleton Institute for Electrical and Computer Engineering at University of Ottawa, Ottawa, and Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada. Over the past decade, Dr. Islam's research funded by many organizations including NASA, NSF, Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) Canada, Canada Research Chairs Program, Harvard University, USA, Carleton University, Canada, Xavier University of Louisiana, USA, Lakehead University, Canada, University of Ottawa, Canada, Khalifa University of Science & technology, UAE, Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan, Ontario Trillium Foundation, CMC Electronics Inc., and many others. He was awarded Research Excellence in Science and Engineering from Carleton University, Canada, for his outstanding contribution to research and development. In 2011, Dr. Islam awarded prestigious NSERC Canada Visiting Research Fellowship for visiting national and international research laboratory. Dr. Islam is the author of more than 100 top tier peer-reviewed high impact factor journal and conference articles in the area of Robotics, Mechatronics & Autonomous Systems as well as Smart Power Grid Network Systems He has been teaching undergraduate and graduate courses from electrical, electronic, computer, robotics, mechatronics and autonomous systems curriculum since 1999. He is an Associate Editor for IEEE Access, Robotics Journal (MDPI) and editorial board member for many international Journals and Conferences. . Dr. Islam was one of the founding members for the undergraduate minor degree program in unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)/Drone, a graduate research degree program in robotics, and autonomous robotics system research center at the ABET accredited University. Most Recently, he founded world class BSc in Robotics and Mechatronics Engineering Program at Xavier University of Louisiana, Louisiana, USA.
