Bio
Dr. Sitalakshmi Venkatraman earned her PhD in Computer Science, with a doctoral thesis titled “Efficient Parallel Algorithms for Pattern Recognition”, from National Institute of Industrial Engineering in 1993. Prior to that she was awarded MSc (Mathematics) in 1985 and MTech (Computer Science) in 1987, both from Indian Institute of Technology (Madras) and subsequently MEd from University of Sheffield in 2001.
Sita has about 30 years of work experience both in industry and academics - developing turnkey projects for IT industry and teaching a variety of IT courses for tertiary institutions, in India, Singapore, New Zealand, and more recently in Australia since 2007. She is currently the Information Technology Lecturer and Discipline Leader for BIS/Business Intelligence at Melbourne Polytechnic. She specialises in applying efficient computing models and data mining techniques for various industry problems and recently in the e-health, e-security and e-business domains through collaborations with industry and universities in Australia. She has published seven book chapters and more than 100 research papers in internationally well-known refereed journals and conferences. She is a Senior Member of professional societies and editorial boards of international journals and serves as Program Committee Member of several international conferences every year.

• Learning & Teaching MP research seed grant of $7.5k awarded by MP for i) EXperiencial Learning in Mathematics, ii) Transnational education systems and iii) Food security using smart sensors (2018-19)
• VET Development Centre Fellowship research grant of $5k awarded by VDC for Studying the effectiveness of two new subjects in the renewed BIT (2016-2017)
• Research grant of $8k awarded by University of Ballarat as Collaborative Research Network for the development of User Ontology for the Smart Mobile Holistic Information Portal jointly with Monash University (2012-2013).
• Research grant of $1.49M awarded by National eResearch Collaboration Tools and Resources for The Industrial Ecology Lab Text Mining in the cloud with the project total cost of 4.45M, and in-kind contribution of $2.96M led by University of Sydney (2012-2015).
• Research grant of AUD$70,000 awarded by Institute for a Broadband-Enabled Society on 'Big Data' Mining n the Cloud for Mobile Self-Omics led by Uni of Melbourne (2012-2013).
• Research grant of AUD$23,500 awarded by Council for Australian- Arab Relations (CAAR) for conducting Tele-Health Workshop in Jordon jointly with Versi, UoM (2012-2013).
• Research grant of AUD$32,500 awarded as Collaborative Research Network UB-Deakin on Online dispute resolution methods for Electronic Health Records (2011-2012).
• PhD student grants of AUD$148,000 awarded by University of Ballarat for Pattern Analysis and Profiling of Malware and Rootkits with Westpac, IBM and AU Govt. (2007-2012).
• Research grant of AUD$7,000 awarded by University of Ballarat for conducting research in Indian student academic culture with School of Business (2009-2010).
• Research grant of NZ$10,000 awarded by Victoria University of Wellington for conducting research in Mobile Clikifax application development and usability testing with New Zealand Construction Industry (2005-2006).
