个人简介
The research interests of Stefan Schweinberger are in the field of cognition and cognitive and social neuroscience. Areas of his research include emotion, memory, language, attention, perception of faces and other social stimuli, cognition subsequent to brain injury, and cognitive aging. His research focuses on the cognitive neuroscience of person perception and recognition by faces, names and voices, as well as the mechanisms of human interaction. In the past 20 years, he and his group were involved in a number of research programs that have been funded by the DFG, the BMBF, the BBSRC, and the Wellcome Trust. Stefan Schweinberger is using research methods that tap into the area between brain and cognition, such as event-related brain potentials (ERP) and haemodynamic neuroimaging (fMRI), eyetracking, as well as psychological investigations of patients with focal brain lesions. A particular objective in this research is the integration of cognitive models with neurophysiological recordings. The combination of various research methods in this ongoing cross-disciplinary program has already provided us with a fuller understanding of the dynamics governing the cognitive and brain systems that mediate the recognition of complex social stimuli. He is also involved in research on refined analysis and synthesis techniques (e.g., averaging, caricaturing, parameter-specific morphing) of naturalistic information in social stimuli (voices, faces). Those techniques are crucial to his research since the ability to precisely and parametrically manipulate social information in naturalistic faces or voices has promoted a new quality of person perception research. He is involved in a research network investigating cognitive, social, and neuronal processes of person perception and human social interaction, as well as individual differences and disorders in those abilities. This work integrates a broad range of expertise from various areas of psychology, medicine, biology, computer science, linguistics, and neuroscience.
