Research Interests
Steven is an Epidemiologist based at the National Institute for Health Research Blood and Transplant Unit (NIHR BTRU) in Donor Health and Genomics where he where he leads genome-wide association studies of common adverse events in donor populations, such as restless legs syndrome and vasovagal reactions. He also examines the causal role of iron and other biochemical markers in the aetiology of acute and chronic diseases using Mendelian randomisation approaches.
Outside of this, Steven co-leads a large-scale multi-cohort project investigating life course alcohol consumption and its association with a variety of health outcomes, including cardiovascular and metabolic diseases.
More widely, he has an interest in individual participant data meta-analysis, the use of electronic health records in medical research, the application and integration of various “-omic” technologies (e.g. metabolomics, proteomics), machine learning and modelling of longitudinal data.
