Just as humans cannot live without oxygen, neither can a tropical forest exist without termites. My Ph.D. study focuses on understanding the process of dead phytomass degradation by termites. Termites require a specific microbiota in their gut, and the only way to obtain information about the prokaryotes and eukaryotes in a termite's gut is to use molecular methods such as nucleic acid extraction, sequencing, and subsequent data processing, where bash and Python become indispensable tools.
