Prof. Theodora A. Varvarigou is the leader of the Distributed, Knowledge and Media Systems Laboratory since 2000. She has received the B. Tech degree from NTUA (1988), the MS degrees in Electrical Engineering (1989) and in Computer Science (1991) from Stanford University and her PhD degree from the same university (1991). She worked at AT&T Bell Labs, Holmdel, New Jersey between 1991 and 1995. Between 1995 and 1997 she was appointed Assistant Professor at the Technical University of Crete, Greece. In 1997 she joined the National Technical University of Athens where she remains as a Professor in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering. From 2007 to 2011 she served as the Director of the Postgraduate Program entitled ‘Engineering Economics Systems’. The scientific expertise of Prof. Varvarigou spans in the areas of Distributed and Cloud computing, Internet of Things, Social Analytics and Engagement technologies and Embedded systems. In these areas, she has published more than 300 papers in leading international, peer reviewed journals and conferences. She has participated and coordinated more than 50 research projects, related to the abovementioned subjects.
