He also directed a Core Research for Evolutional Science and Technology (CREST) project (2001-2005) entitled “Functional High-Axial-Ratio Nanostructure Assembly for Nano-Space Engineering” and the succeeding Solution Oriented Research for Science and Technology (SORST) project (2005-2009) entitled “Supramolecular Nanotube Architectonics and the Nano-Bio Applications” funded by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST). He had been Professor of Chemistry, University of Tsukuba, Japan as well (1997-2012). His research has been focusing on functional high-axial-ratio nanostructure assemblies for nano-space engineering. He was the recipient of The Award of the Society of Polymer Science (SPSJ) (2001), Japan, The Chemical Society of Japan (CSJ) Award for Creative Work (2006), and SPSJ Mitsubishi Chemical Award (2013).
