个人简介
The leading organization in the field of corrosion in Switzerland.
We use experimental and computational methods, covering corrosion science, electrochemistry, materials science, porous media and reaction mass transfer, and civil engineering. We are committed to providing mechanical insights into corrosion mechanisms and their effects on structural behavior, and developing methods and sensors for monitoring purposes, robot-assisted inspection methods, and corrosion mitigation strategies.
Since 2017 I am the president of the Swiss Society for Corrosion Protection (SGK).
Committee work and society memberships:
I am a member of RILEM, the international union of laboratories and experts in construction materials, systems and structures. I am engaged in the following technical committees (TC):
Chair of RILEM technical committee 262-SCI “characteristics of the steel/concrete interface and their effect on initiation of chloride-induced reinforcement corrosion” (since 2014).
Chair of working group 5 “Effect of carbonation on corrosion of concrete with SCMs” of RILEM TC 281-CCC “Carbonation of concrete with supplementary cementitious materials” (since 2018).
Member of TC CCH “Stress corrosion cracking and hydrogen embrittlement of reinforcing steels”.
Previous RILEM committee memberships:
TC 235-CTC “corrosion initiating chloride threshold concentrations in concrete”. I hosted two of the committee meetings in Zurich, Switzerland, and contributed very actively to the TC.
TC 248-MMB “methods of measuring moisture in building materials and structures”
Other organizations and committees:
Since 2019, I chair the working group “Korrosionsschutz im konstruktiven Ingenieurbau” of GfKORR, the Association for Corrosion Protection of German speaking countries (Gesellschaft für Korrosionsschutz, Frankfurt, Germany).
I am a member of the German Society for Non-Destructive Testing (DGZfP) committee preparing a recommendation on corrosion monitoring of concrete structures (“Merkblatt Korrosionsmonitoring bei Stahl- und Spannbetonbauwerken“)
I am a member of the American Concrete Institute (ACI)
I am a member of NACE international – the worldwide corrosion association (NACE)
Editorial work
2017 I became a member of the Editorial Board of the open access journal RILEM Technical Letters
2014 I became a member of the Editorial Advisory Committee of the journal Materials and Structures
2012 Guest editor for a special issue of the journal Materials and Corrosion (vol. 63, issue 12).
2017 RILEM Robert L’Hermite Medal 2017
2016
Professorship grant by the Swiss National Science Foundation
2015
The following research paper was selected by the board of editors of the Journal Materials and Structures as one of ten outstanding papers in 2015:
Femenias Y, Angst U, Caruso F, Elsener B. Ag/AgCl ion-selective electrodes in neutral and alkaline environments containing interfering ions. Materials and Structures 49 (2016) 2637–2651
2015 I was selected to represent ETH Zurich at the Global Young Scientist Summit (GYSS@one-north) in Singapore, which is a gathering of young scientists with recognized scientific leaders (a.o. recipients of the Nobel Prize).
2014 Best paper award at the Concrete Innovation Conference CIC 2014 in Oslo, Norway, for the paper “climbing robot for corrosion inspection and monitoring of reinforced and post-tensioned concrete structures” (in theme “prolongation of service life”)
2012 Award for the best dissertation on the topic of building chemistry, awarded by the German Chemical Society GDCh
(Förderpreis der Fachgruppe Bauchemie der Gesellschaft Deutscher Chemiker)
2009 Research prize of the Norwegian Concrete Association
