Bio
Usha Kuruganti (Member, IEEE) received the B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in electrical engineering and the Ph.D. degree in human factors engineering from the University of New Brunswick (UNB), Fredericton, NB, Canada, in 1990, 1993, and 2004, respectively.
She worked as a professional engineering in information technology and the health sector for several years. She is currently a Professor with the Faculty of Kinesiology, UNB, where she is also a Co-Founder and the Co-Director of the Andrew and Marjorie McCain Human Performance Laboratory, Richard J. Currie Center. She has also served as the Assistant Dean (Graduate Studies and Research) for the Faculty of Kinesiology, from September 2013 to July 2020. Her research interest includes the area of human factors and biomedical engineering. Her specific research interests include neuromuscular and occupational physiology, prosthetics, and signal processing techniques, such as surface electromyography. Her scholarly work focuses on teaching methodologies, problem-based learning, and engineering accreditation.
Dr. Kuruganti is currently supported by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC Discovery Grant), and previously, she has been supported by the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI New Opportunities Fund and Leaders Opportunity Fund), the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and Regional Partners Program (CIHR-RPP), and the New Brunswick Innovation Foundation (NBIF-RAI). She is a registered Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists (APEGNB), a Fellow of Engineers Canada, and has served as a member of the Canadian Engineering Qualifications Board. She currently serves on the APEGNB Foundation for Education, which supports and develops engineering and geoscience education in New Brunswick.
