Safety of nanomaterials, which are virtually everywhere including cosmetics, toiletries, food products including sweets, chewing gum, vitamins, and drugs, is of a colossal concern. There is already evidence that nanomaterials may induce serious health problems and their effects on living organisms are largely unexplored. Professor Chrzanowski’s research develops functional tissue models of both healthy and diseased tissues to provide a deep understanding of nanomaterial interactions in a biological environment. Furthermore, this new knowledge allows him to develop new classes of non-toxic nanomaterials and theranostics that may be used safely for diagnostic and therapeutic application i.e. controlled and targeted drug delivery.
