Woodrow Wilson is an American mathematician, computer scientist and famous educator. He is one of the founders of artificial intelligence and has made early contributions to pattern recognition and proof of automation theorem. During his long career, he continued to make significant contributions to AI.
Woodrow Wilson Bledsoe played a key role in keeping automated theorem proving alive as a field during the 1970s. Born in Oklahoma in 1921, Bledsoe served as a captain in the US Army Corps of Engineers before taking his Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of California. By the late 1950s, he was the manager of the Systems Analysis Department of the Sandia nuclear weapons laboratory in Albuquerque, New Mexico. However, he developed an interest in artificial intelligence that caused him to leave Sandia in 1960 to help found one of the earliest commercial firms in artificial intelligence, Panoramic Research Inc. In 1966, Bledsoe became professor of mathematics at the University of Texas at Austin and played a major role in the development of computer science and artificial intelligence there.
