Research interests
Wu Zhan's research interests are threefold. Firstly, he is interested in strategy of foreign and local rivals in the context of emerging economies. In particular, he is currently interested in how the competitive dynamics between foreign and local rivals unfold and the implications for both. He is especially keen to understand the co-evolution between foreign and rivals in emerging economies in order to answer a fundamental research question in IB: what determines the international success (and failure) in emerging economies? Secondly, he is interested in global innovation strategy of MNCs with the focus on the roles played by subsidiaries as well as parents. Given the rich literature on the importance of subsidiaries, he is keen to investigate the roles played by parents of MNCs and how parents and subsidiaries co-work and co-create in the success of global innovation of MNCs. Lastly, he is interested in services marketing in the international, inter-cultural, and multi-cultural contexts. In the domain, he is particularly interested in Inter-Cultural Service Encounter (ICSE) which is focused on how people from different cultural backgrounds interact in the setting of service encounter. In terms of research methodology, he is interested in both qualitative and quantitative methods. To date, he has published conceptual papers and empirical papers based on survey and experiment.International business strategy
