System Customization with Configurable Modules for Embedded Application Software

With the trend of increasing complexity and individuation of embedded applications, the system customization becomes highly appreciated and demanded. This paper proposes to customize an embedded software system both in design time and run-time. Design customization is supported with configurable modules. In-field or run-time customization may be facilitated with a flexible system architecture enabling module updating or modules reconfiguration. Several typical customization approaches are summarized. A project case is studied to evaluate the proposed ideas.
