Synthesis and spectroscopic characteristics of bis-[dimethyl(phenyl)silylmethyl]platinum(II) complexes with nitrogen donor ligands

A series of bis-[dimethyl(phenyl)silylmethyl]platinum(II) complexes, LPt(CH 2 SiMe 2 Ph) 2 with bidentate, N-heteroaromatic ligands (L = 2,2′-bipyridyl; 4,4′-dimethyl-2,2′-bipyridyl; 4,4′-di- t -butyl-2,2′-bipyridyl; 2,2′-bipyrimidyl; 2,2′-bipyrazyl; 1,10-phenanthroline; 4,7-diphenyl-1,10-phenanthroline; 3,4,7,8-tetramethyl-1,10-phenanthroline and 2,9-dimethyl-4,7-diphenyl-1,10-phenanthroline) have been synthesized by the displacement of the diolefin from (cod)Pt(CH 2 SiMe 2 Ph) 2 or (nbd)Pt(CH 2 SiMe 2 Ph) 2 , or by the displacement of the thioether from [Pt(CH 2 SiMe 2 Ph) 2 (μ-DMS)] 2 (cod = cycloocta-1,5-diene; nbd = [2.2.1]bicyclohepta-2,5-diene; DMS = dimethyl sulphide). These new derivatives have been characterized by electronic, IR and NMR ( 1 H and 13 C) spectroscopy. Also reported is the synthesis and spectroscopic characterization of an isolable bis-pyridine analogue, cis -(py) 2 Pt(CH 2 SiMe 2 Ph) 2 .
