Synthesis and spectroscopic characteristics of bis(ethenyldimethylsilylmethyl)platinium(II) complexes containing nitrogen donor ligands

Complexes of the type LPt(CH2SiMe2CH : CH2)2 have been synthesised by diene displacement from (nbd)Pt(CH2SiMe2CH : CH2)2 [L = bipy, Me2bipy, but2bipy, bipym, bipyz, phen, Me4phen, Ph2phen, tmeda]. With a monodentate nitrogen donor ligand (such as pyridine), the product is the complex (py)Pt(CH2SiMe2CH:CH2)(CH2SiMe2CH : CH2), in which η2-binding of one ethenylsilyl ligand completes tetracoordination of platinum. All these compounds have been characterised by 1H and 13C NMR, infrared and electronic spectroscopy.
