Polysilahydrocarbon Synthetic Fluids .3. Synthesis Of 6-Carbon-Bridged Trisilahydrocarbons

Trisilahydrocarbons of the general formula R2Si(n-C6H12SiR3)2 were obtained by a three-step process starting with Cl2SiH2/1,5-hexadiene interaction. The first reaction gave ring compounds Cl2Si(CH2)4CHCH3 and Cl2Si(CH2)3CHC2H5 in addition to the trisilahydrocarbon precursor Cl2-Si[(CH2)4CH=CH2]2. Rigid temperature control was necessary to minimize the cyclics formation and to avoid the double bond isomerization. The C6-bridged trisilahydrocarbons exhibited essentially identical viscosity/molecular weight profiles as the C8-bridged materials. Attempted preparation of C4-bridged trisilahydrocarbons was unsuccessful due to the predominant cyclization in the first step.
