Cyclometallation of 1-(3',4'-dimethoxyphenyl)-2-methyl-3-(4'-nitrophenyl)-2-azapropane upon treatment with Pd(II) acetate occurs at the electron rich dimethoxy-substituted aromatic ring in CHCl3 solution, and at the electron poor nitrophenyl ring in AcOH solution.
