Effects of Epidural Analgesia on the Course of Labor and Delivery: a Natural Experiment
Obstetrics and gynecology (New York 1953 Online)/Obstetrics and gynecology(2000)
Abstract
Objective: Whether epidural analgesia prolongs labor and increases risk of cesarean delivery is still an unresolved debate. Randomized clinical trials are difficult to conduct effectively and ethically. We examined this issue in a unique population where epidural analgesia for labor was virtually unavailable but became available on request within a very short period.
