Extraction Of Ribonucleic Acid From Poliovirus By Treatment With Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate

Treatment of poliovirus with sodium dodecyl sulfate at room temperature results in inactivation of capsid with release of RNA, providing the reaction is carried out within a restricted pH range. The critical pH range is somewhat different for each poliovirus prototype. The efficiency of this procedure is of the order of 10 −3 , which is similar to that obtained by cold phenol extraction.
