INFLUENCES ON CONTINU ED USE OF AN INFORMATI ON SYSTEM: A LONGITUDIN AL STUDY

What influences encourage and discourage long -term use of an Information System (IS)? In a longitudinal study over 14 months, we examine use of a Learning Mana gement System in an educational setting. Our fi ndings suggest that the i nfluences that support users' decision to adopt a technology may not be sufficient to encourage continued long -term use. New i nfluences emerge as users employ technology to suit varyin g needs in work environments at varying times. F indings from the study reveal that rejection of a technology may take place long after adoption if users do not experience long -term benefits or are unable to resolve persistent issue s. Localized IT and peer -support and on -going training are key factor s in encouraging users to persist, resulting in long -term productivity and satisfaction.
