The georeferenced soil database of Lombardy (Northern Italy) at scale 1:250.000 and its application to support the regional policies

As the soil is a resource performing a number of environmental, social and economic key functions, vital for life, a thematic strategy on soil relies in first instance on the availability of soil maps and database as the basis for action. To this purpose, a georeferenced soil database at scale 1:250k covering the whole Lombardy (25.000 kmq) has been carried out in the framework of a national project (Italian soil map at scale 1:250k - Ministry of Agriculture) and according to the European Manual of Procedures (version 1.0, 1998). The georeferenced soil database at scale 1:250k will become part of the Lombardy GIS and its application to support both the agricultural and environmental regional policies is planned.
