Electron-beam floating zone growing of high-purity cobalt crystals

A detailed study of the preparation of high-purity cobalt crystals is presented. The procedure consisted of the hydrogen reduction of high-purity cobalt chloride, the annealing of the resulting cobalt powder under chlorine flow, and the growth of cobalt crystals by electron-beam floating zone melting. The residual resistivity ratio of cobalt crystals was a maximum of 240. The different chemical and metallurgical procedures for the preparation of high-purity cobalt crystals have been compared and discussed.
