Ruthenium-Catalysed Cleavage of Alkenes and Alkynes to Carboxylic Acids

摘要
Catalysis of alkene and alkyne cleavage to carboxylic acids by ruthenium trichloride in the presence of an excess of periodic acid has been studied in biphasic H2O - CC4-CH3CN media, and is found to be simple and effective. The active catalyst is shown to be RuO4.
