Synthesis and spectroscopic characteristics of trimethylsilylmethylplatinum(II) complexes with η2 alkene, nitrogen and phosphorus and sulphur donor ligands

Various complexes cis -L 2 PtR 2 (L = py, PMe 3 , PEt 3 , PMe 2 Ph, PMePh 2 , PPh 3 , L 2 = bipy, Me 2 bipy, bipym, bipyz, Me 4 phen, Ph 2 phen, dppm, dppe, dppf, R = CH 2 SiMe 3 ) have been synthesized by displacement of the diene from (cod)PtR 2 or (nbd)PtR 2 or by sulphide replacement in [(dms)PtR 2 ] n . [TerpyPtR]BF 4 has been synthesized via (cod)Pt(R)(X), (X = Cl, I). The complexes have been characterized by IR, 1 H, 13 C NMR and, where appropriate, 31 P NMR and electronic spectroscopy. Trimethylsilylmethyl exerts a weaker trans -influence than neopentyl which, on NMR evidence, has the stronger PtC bond.
